The Story of the Wooden Salad Bowls

We have a set of wooden salad bowls.  I'm not sure why, maybe because it seems a little different, but salad is just better in a wooden bowl.  Our children always loved to get to eat out of the wooden bowls.  I thought the wooden bowls were safe at our house.  Afterall, nothing gets put in the dishwasher without deliberate action!  But, somehow, the wooden bowls landed in the dishwasher.   Not a good location for any wooden ware.  To make matters worse, they were left in the dishwasher for quite some time. As you may have guessed, the bowls caught and held water, severely damaging the finish. They have been sitting in our cabinet for quite some time.  Periodically, I would get them out and try to repair the damage.  I could never throw them out part because of being a pack rat and part because we loved them so much.  When Howard's introduced a new product for conditioning butcher blocks, I immediately thought about my salad bowls.  I always try the products we carry; so, I thought this would be the ultimate test.  First, I gently rubbed the Butcher Block Conditioner across the scraped and scratched outside surface.  I could immediately see a rejuvenated appearance.  Then, I put a generous amount over the water stain and applied a little force with a nylon kitchen scrubber.  Immediately the water damage began to disappear.  I treated the entire set and they look beautiful.   Just take a look at our before and after photos below.  Once again, Howard's products prove easy to use and yield outstanding results.

What is it?

Howard's Butcher Block Conditioner is specialized wood care for butcher blocks, cutting boards, wooden bowls and utensils. It is safe for food preparation areas. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil, along with the water resistant traits of beeswax, and carnauba wax rejuvenates the wood and prevents drying and cracking. The naturally anti-bacterial waxes protect the wood by keeping mineral oil in and the moisture out. It consists of a blend of food-grade mineral oil, stabilized with vitamin E, beeswax, and carnauba wax. Butcher Block Conditioner exceeds U. S. FDA regulations and standards for direct and indirect contact with food. Howard's products are Made in the USA.
