Question 4 Answer - Our Opinion

Notice the question was about reviving the old finish not necessarily refinishing. A good rule of thumb is choosing the most gentle method available, especially when working with an antique. The goal is to making it acceptable aesthetically as well as usable in your home.

We try to avoid the path of stripping furniture to the bare wood. Howard's restor-a-finish is a product that we have been very pleased with and have received positive feedback from our customers as well. If you've got a piece of furniture that has been scratched and abused over the years it is certainly worth a try. Many times a practically effortless application of restor-a-finsih can make the ugliest pieces beautiful as shown in the bofore and after picture above. This is not a fancy advertising picture. It is a piece that we had in our shop in need of TLC. We applied a single coat of restor-a-finish and took a picture of the results. Take a look at our demo page for another example.

We've all heard horror stories of someone destroying a priceless antique by altering the finish or stripping away the patina. If you believe you have a masterpiece or a one of a kind rare piece, it's better to seek advice from a reputable antique furniture expert. Often museum curators can help with locating someone in your area.
